Abstract

COVID-19 has brought with it increasing rates of disabling sequelae that pose significant challenges for medical education. Due to their importance in the training process of medical students, these sequelae must be addressed from different teaching settings through various pedagogical methods, such as learning situations. In this regard, the present research is carried out with the aim of proposing learning situations about disabling post-COVID-19 sequelae in the training of medical students, which can be applied in other educational settings. The research revealed that the study has a positive impact on the training process of medical students. The proposed learning situations were able to improve the understanding of complex chronic pathologies and the need for a biopsychosocial approach. Increased sensitivity, development of clinical competencies, improved communication, interdisciplinary focus, and social awareness were observed. This will have a positive impact on quality of life, reduce the care burden, and allow for resource savings. Besides, changes should be proposed in the curriculum of the degree program, and particularly in the Public Health subject program, to include the approach, support, integrated care, and rehabilitation of patients with disabling post-COVID-19 sequelae.
