Abstract

The professional training model of the Technological University of Aguascalientes is based on the development of professional competences, therefore the university graduates must achieve a set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to practice a profession, acquired through their practice in the university courses and their further
professional performance. Having the right skills, the graduates can solve professional problems in specific social contexts. Considering the above statements, the authors have presented their experiences in the Metrology Laboratory in relation to the development of skills that contribute to the formation of professional competences in students from
the first quarter of university higher technician courses in Mechatronics. The experience was based on a reverse engineering problem oriented to know the basic geometry of cylindrical gears. To obtain the fundamental gears geometry, the student had to apply a set of skills as calculations of machine elements, technical measurements, problemsolving procedures, technical drawings, standards, and development of Excel tables.
Results of quizzes applied to students about the use of dimensional metrology instruments and the better knowledge about fits and tolerances allowed to declare the experience in the laboratory very positive.
