Abstract

Proficiency in the English language has become an essential requirement based on country´s socio-economic projections and current international trends. The Language Centers emerged as an academic structure in the 2016-2017 academic year. Since then, they have implemented the comprehensive strategy for managing the English Language training process at the Cuban universities. This article presents the comprehensive strategy and the results obtained through its implementation during the first stage of the improvement policy projection in Cuban Higher Education. The documents that rule the policy were studied and a statistic analysis concerning the needs of human and material resources in each university as well as the results obtained by the students in the certification tests during this stage was carried out. The quantitative and qualitative results during the application of the comprehensive strategy are also shown. At the end of the first stage, a significant progress on the policy projection was achieved which has enabled to continue working on the second stage until 2026.
