Abstract

The mastery of the English language as a language of exchange worldwide, acquires more and more relevance in all professional and occupational fields, Ecuador is not exempt from this particularity. However, there is evidence of a low level of development in language teaching that affects the quality of professional activity in various sectors of the country. In this article, a historical study on the English teaching evolution is carried out, specifically on the teaching methods, initially worldwide and subsequently nationwide. The purpose of the article is to systematize the characteristics, limitations and contributions concerning English teaching methods to contextualize them in Ecuador.
