Abstract

Nowadays, the scientific and technological progress demands professionals who are able to organize in an autonomous and responsible way their learning process through the formative use of technologies for the acquisition of knowledge. Mastering the English language is an essential premise for the future performance of the professionals and their participation in the
international scientific community. Speaking, an important communicative skill in the English language learning process includes the oral production and the interaction as well as the mastering of the vocabulary, grammar and the socio-cultural knowledge. However, the students at the Technological University show some difficulties which hinder the development
of this skill such as the poor understanding of the message heard, the limited use of the lexical resources, the poor correspondence of the selected lexical resources and the communicative situation, the incoherent production of phrases and sentences, among others, that leads them to a limited oral interaction. This problem motivated the study of the oral expression skill and the possible alternatives to achieve its development. This article is aimed at systematizing the theoretical basis that support the development of speaking skill by integrating knowledge and learning technologies to the English language teaching and learning process at the Technological University of Havana, Cujae. The identification of key aspects for the future
implementation of courses designed in the Moodle platform to develop oral communication was reached.
