Abstract

This article deals with the topic of distance education in the teaching of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Traditionally, this has been a topic which was considered not suitable to be taught through this modality. The School of Energy and Mining (EEM) has been steadily working in the introduction of this type of education, and in the English teaching process, it has been introduced since 2017. The objective of this paper is to explain how a course of business English has been implemented through the Moodle platform as a new way of managing this course. Through the implementation of the teaching and learning process of English
in this modality, a set of advantages and disadvantages has been displayed. It is important to socialize them with other professionals with the aim of going deeper in to the knowledge of this kind of teaching, which is not impossible at all to do. Moodle involves a series of communication resources which are very useful for the student-student interaction and student- tutor interaction. The lack of computer means and network problems still hinders the way in which this process should be carried out. Some alternatives have to be found along the way but in this times of COVID-19, distance education has come to stay as a useful
alternative for not stopping the English teaching and learning process.
