Abstract

This paper is part of a Doctoral research defended, validated and applied in the Forestry  career  at  the  University  of  Pinar  del  Río,  Cuba.  An  analysis  from  the curriculum of the career was performed starting from the students’ performance to  the  specific  proposals  of  the  general  competencies  required  by  future professionals  for  their  successful  performance  in  their  productive  and  service forestry  activities.   Another  aspect  to  be included  is  the  students’  formation process during their five years of studies, taking into account management as a central  theme  and  backbone  in  their  studies  making  them  more  dynamic  and assuming broader and integral competencies. This research shows the importance of  including  the  formation  by  developing  competence  in  the  career  in  order  to achieve  more  and  better  prepared  professionals  who  will  promote  the development of forestry in Cuba from a scientific basis, respecting the principles of a sustainable development for a better world for all.
