Keywords:
Logical thinking, creativity, engineering teachingAbstract
Nowadays, the development of logical thinking in engineering students has some shortcomings. This paper aims at providing a space for reflective thinking about the importance of valuing the development of logical thinking in engineering teaching. Theoretical methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction and ascension from the abstract thinking to the concrete thinking are used to assess and systematize theinformation provided by the bibliographic sources consulted and integrate this knowledge with to the experience of the authors. The result is the exposition of the arguments that support the veracity of the problem identified and the argumentation of the role that the development of logical thinking plays in engineering teaching. It is concluded that the
problem is pertinent and there are multiple criteria and arguments that support both the need and the high relevance that should be given to the development of logical thinking of students without diminishing the importance of the development of creativity. There is a need to seek alternatives to develop logical thinking during engineering education.
