Abstract

Conducting biographical-historical, research on personalities who were instrumental in forging the identity and values of the Cuban nation is very important. The educational legacy of historical figures constitutes an essential pathway for new generations of educators. From this perspective, the article aims to present the pedagogical contributions of José María Heredia as an educator. Under a dialectical-materialist approach, methods such as the unity of the historical and the logical, analysis and synthesis, as well as the inductive and deductive, were employed. A bibliographic review of scientific articles and books was conducted using complex search strategies in Google Scholar, Scielo, and PubMed. The results present Heredia's pedagogical contributions through works that contain high educational value, where his ideas on teaching—outlined in the periodicals he directed and promoted—are materialized. The conclusions highlight the importance of the teacher addressing, through the teaching-educational process, the study of the thought of a figure like Heredia, which fosters an understanding of the student's comprehensive development in their way of thinking and behaving as a citizen.
