Abstract

The Cuban Academic Credit System (CACS) stands as an essential mechanism for contemporary postgraduate education, facilitating continuous professional development in the country. However, gaps in its understanding and application hinder its full potential. This article analyzes key aspects that validate the system, illustrating its implementation through concrete examples. The primary objective of this work is to expand and deepen, based on postgraduate experience, relevant issues regarding the application of the CACS. To this end, the article is structured around three axes: first, exploring its theoretical and practical foundations; second, exemplifying its use in educational contexts; and third, discussing recurring challenges in its implementation. Regarding credit distribution, the process is detailed from basic curricular units to postgraduate specializations, highlighting its flexibility to adapt to diverse professional profiles. The importance of coherently aligning credits with educational objectives is emphasized, ensuring an integrated academic trajectory. Finally, the article underscores the necessity of rigorous study of current postgraduate regulations, as their mastery is crucial for effective CACS-based management. This regulatory understanding not only optimizes administrative processes but also enhances educational quality at this level. In summary, the article provides a critical and proactive perspective on the CACS, highlighting its relevance as an academic organizational model and proposing pathways to overcome identified implementation gaps.
