This article reveals the potentialities offered by organizing all basic and general subjects in an Institute of Basic Sciences (IBS), like the one that exists at the Technological University of Havana, to strengthen professional training and retention processes in the first years of the different careers, through reaching higher levels of interdisciplinary relationships. It presents the partial results of a research leading to the PhD scientific degree, which is linked to a non-associated project on university retention. It particularly highlights the modeling of the interdisciplinary relationships among the subjects of the basic training cycle, its graphic representation in the cycle curriculum framework, and a set of actions to promote interdisciplinarity in terms of university retention during the first years of study. The scientific debate and discussion of the topic are based on the objective of the article which substantiates the importance of interdisciplinary relations among the subjects of the basic training cycle taking advantage of the IBS structure for teaching and retention processes during the Basic Training Cycle.
