Integration of the mobile technology to the teaching of numerical methods subject in chemical engineering

Abstract

With the purpose of increasing the students´ protagonist participation   in their learning process and as an alternative to energize teaching Numerical Methods subject in Chemical Engineering, an action-research study was carried out with two groups of students. For the new design of the classes, a continuous use of Mobile technologies was proposed (MT). The traditional triad Conference, Practical lesson and Laboratory was reduced because of the lack of laboratories with enough personal computers. At the end, an instrument for collecting the opinions of the students was applied, with an ascending scale of satisfaction (values ​​from 1 to 10) on the items investigated; the results were very favorable. The objective of the article was to introduce transformations in the didactics of the Numerical Methods subject, of the third year of the Chemical Engineering career, at the Technological University of Havana, from the decision to use the EXCEL software of MT applications, both in conferences as well as in practical classes, and consequently, in the written evaluations carried out during the teaching semester. The design of the activities must continue to be improved to consolidate the progress in the didactics of the subject, associated with the selected approach.
