Education in values: a necessity in university education

Abstract

The education of university students reinforcing their values constitutes, a systematic and intentional process that should put emphasis on the formation and development of their personality in the world and Cuba. For this reason, this article reflects the current Cuban university circumstances. The role and relationship of the student with society and their task concerning a better future are referred to. The article is aimed at identifying the foundations of a contextualized proposal for the formation of values in Cuban university students and defining actions as well as pedagogical recommendations for the development of these values. The thesis that the future graduate is formed on the basis of their experiences and the formative role of all university activities is highlighted. The important role of teachers regarding the achievement of a comprehensive training is also emphasized, articulating scientific knowledge with its social transcendence. As a conclusion, the process of formation of values in the Cuban university is not limited to the interaction in the classroom or to the management of the contents of social and humanistic sciences, it must be materialized through actions that permeate the curricular, the extracurricular, the investigative, the occupational activities and the entire university life.
