Development of Communicative Competences in the Training of Professionals of English

Abstract

The development of the communicative competence in English is one of the topics that have arisen nowadays in the teaching-learning process at higher education level. This article is aimed at critically reflecting on the importance of developing the communicative competence of English professionals during their training and at proposing a methodological strategy at this level to improve the academic quality of the process. At present, the way activities are carried out in the English teaching-learning process hinders the development of the students’ communicative competence. It is seen as a mechanical and positivist process, which limits them from successfully conveying an oral and/or written message. The main two results of this research are the positive impact of deeply studying the development of communicative competence on higher education level and the proposal of the methodological strategy which should guarantee its development. As a conclusion, this research allowed to identify the most frequent difficulties professionals have in the English teaching-learning process in order to present the methodological strategy.
