The formation of values in the university: utopia, possibility or necessity?
Abstract
International events, publications and educational transformations that have been recently carried out in most universities, reaffirm the need of a more comprehensive training of young university students, so that they are capable of solving the increasingly social problems that affect the human existence. Education aimed at promoting values is a process considered utopia by some people in this globalized century, in which human values are threatened as never before. For others, technological and educational development offers multiple possibilities for their training and it is described by different sciences as an urgent need. The present paper is aimed at assessing the possibilities of integrating information and
communication technologies (ICT) to the university teaching-educational process for the formation of the values required by the 21st century professional. The result is related to the analysis which defends that the formation of values at the university, far from being utopia, is shown as a necessity for linking theory and practice. Finally, a group of contradictions and
theoretical positions is bridged as a source of motivation for debates and collective decisionmaking, aimed at finding alternatives for the formation of values through the integration of ICT to the university.
