Abstract

One of the challenges imposed by the contemporary world is the linking of universities with social changes, as centers that generate a cognitive capital that can and must configure new realities with commitment and social responsibility. This is a reflection on the extension work of the university and its management as a public good generating institution, which acquires greater relevance in today's world, with ample debate in the academic space in search of vindicating the citizen's right. The popular education of Paulo Freire, and the Participatory Action Research, are referents in this paper in function of an extension agent for the local development and the growth of the professionals of the academy; based on an experience of the Faculty of Social Communication, fruit of pre-professional
practice. It is the result of two years of extension experience by the authors.
