Abstract

According  to  the  Higher  Education  Organic  Law,  the  current  Regulation  of Academic  Regime  and  other  regulations  of  the  leading  organisms  in  Higher Education, some  considerations are presented in this paper about the role of the
scientific research in the training of the university professionals. A conception for the  improvement  of  this  main  process  at  the  Catholic  University  of  Cuenca, Ecuador  is  also  presented.  The  theoretical  systematization  carried  out  and  the proposed  conception  are  the  result  of  a  research  performed  in  this  institution aimed at elaborating  the Educational Model of the University. As a result of the
current implementation process of this conception, taking into account this Model, an alternative of the proposed conception in the Economics major in this institution is also presented.
