Abstract

The study of the target situation occupies a transcendental place in the necessary diagnoses  carried  out  in  the  conformation,  improvement  or  renovation  of  the business training system. The data obtained from a diagnosis makes it easier for
the  researcher, the  human  resources  manager  and  the  institution  to  determine with  more  precision  the  system  of  knowledge,  skills,  attitudes  and  values that should  be  exhibited  by  a  competent  staff.  These  data  also  allow  identifying  the lacks, needs and motivations to be included in a more effective training system that  contributes  to  the  desired  performance.  Based  on  this  conception,  in  the foreign trade sector, where communicative competence in the English language is described in the specialists’ profile, and constitutes an important premise in the proper  performance  of  their  duties,  diagnosing  the  development  of  such competence focusing on the relevant context is fundamental. This work aims at
showing some results that make evident the need to implement a training system that will strengthen the development of communicative competence in English for Specific Purposes of the CIMEX Group commercial specialists.
